300 High School Students organize Sit-In In School Gymnasium To Address Anti-Gay Bullying…
Vermont - About 300 students from Essex High School held a sit-in in their gymnasium last Friday. The gym was filled with students who came together to take action!!!
The sit-in was organized in support of a openly bisexual student who was bullied because of his sexual orientation. Posters and placards, carried by students, filled the room as different gay rights advocacy groups held workshops on bullying, and other issues that LGBT teens deal with.
Teens shared their stories of being bullied in school, and talked with organizers about the concerns. One freshman, Cole Peterson, told the Burlington Free Press that a bully in a nearby park punched him in his face. His statement was truly powerful…
“"I feel really loved and cared for, and I feel like we can make a difference with this, and I really hope that we can change something."

The school’s principal was in support of the sit-in, and told reporters that he’ll deal with attendance issues this week.
As students all over the country deal with school officials that aren’t so fond of events like these, this gives them hope that there is a way to get school officials to understand the importance of addressing these issues.
Take a look at what happened…
Do you think your school officials would support a sit-in like this in your school? If not, explain. (Comment Below)
